MediEvil, PlayStation

MediEvil is a classic hack-and-slash action game developed by SCE Cambridge Studio and published by Sony in 1998. In it you play as the resurrected skeleton of Sir Daniel Fortesque, in the kingdom of Gallowmere, who has been inadvertently brought back from his eternal sleep to once again fight the evil sorcerer Zarok (voiced by the late Paul Darrow). As shown in the humorous introductory sequence, Sir Dan’s initial attempt at thwarting Zarok fell flat on its face and this is his shot at redemption.

World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Megadrive/Genesis

World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck was developed and published by Sega, exclusively for the Megadrive/Genesis in 1992. It’s a platform game where players can play single-player as either Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck, or can play cooperatively together while sharing a set pool of lives. Other Disney characters, such as Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Huey, Dewey and Louie also make appearances.

Herc’s Adventures, Sega Saturn

Herc’s Adventures is a cartoon action game developed by Big Ape Productions and published by LucasArts and is based on Greek mythology and the adventures of Hercules. It was first released in 1997 for the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation. The game is similar in graphical style to two other LucasArts classics, Day of the Tentacle and Zombies Ate My Neighbors, in that it uses exaggerated cartoon-style animation to present the world and characters.

Myth: History in the Making, Commodore 64

First published for 8-bit home computers in 1989, Myth: History in the Making is an action platform game in which you play a teenage boy from the 20th century who has been transported to “The Time of Legends” after falling through a tear in the space-time continuum. There he is rescued by a high priestess who informs him that their world is under attack from Dameron, The Dark Angel of Time, and who must be destroyed if he has any hope of returning to his own time.

SonSon II, PC Engine

SonSon II is the 1989 sequel to Capcom‘s 1984 arcade game, SonSon, and was developed by NEC Avenue and released exclusively for the PC Engine. Once again it is loosely based on the adventures of the “Monkey King” as popularised by the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West.
