Developed by Jeff Minter of Llamasoft and published by Atari Corporation in 1995, Defender 2000 is a re-imagining of the classic Williams Electronics arcade game from 1981, but with more ‘realistic’ graphics. It was an Atari Jaguar exclusive and only appeared on Atari‘s ill-fated console, in cartridge form. It was released as a companion title to Tempest 2000 – also by Llamasoft – and which is arguably the better game of the two. Both are decent games, though.
Ristar is a cute and colourful scrolling 2D platform game developed and published by Sega in 1995. It first came out for the Megadrive/Genesis and was later ported to the Game Gear, but it was only ever initially released on Sega console hardware.
Dirt Racer is a racing game for the Super Nintendo that uses the Super FX chip to render the 3D graphics, and it has the distinction of being by far the worst game to use Argonaut‘s famous co-processor. The game was developed by Motivetime and published by Elite Systems in 1995.
Dirt Trax FX is a motocross racing game developed by Sculptured Software and published by Acclaim Entertainment for the Super Nintendo in 1995. It uses the Super FX chip inside the cartridge to power the 3D course graphics. In spite of the extra processing power, Dirt Trax FX is a fairly average motocross racing game, in my opinion.
The Super Nintendo conversion of id Software‘s classic Doom was developed by Sculptured Software and published by Williams Electronics in 1995. It uses the Super FX chip to help render the 3D graphics, but in truth: even with the extra processing power it’s a pretty poor effort.
Developed by Dreamforge Intertainment and published by SSI for PC MS-DOS in 1995, Ravenloft: Stone Prophet is a first-person Role-Playing Game and follow-up to Ravenloft: Strahd’s Possession and it uses the same game engine as its predecessor but is generally considered to be a better game overall.
This 1995 Game Gear Judge Dredd game is based on the film of the same name starring Sylvester Stallone. It was developed by Probe Software and published by Acclaim Entertainment.
