The Dizzy adventures are well-known and much-loved on the ZX Spectrum. Created by The Oliver Twins, they feature an anthropomorphic egg called Dizzy who somersaults when he jumps and solves item-based puzzles, often in an attempt to rescue his friends, the “yolkfolk“.
The Dizzy adventure series started out in 1987 and spans eight core titles, the last of which was released as a ‘special’ in 2020. Here’s a rundown of all eight Dizzy adventures, in chronological order:
1. Dizzy: The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure (1987)
2. Treasure Island Dizzy (1988)
3. Fantasy World Dizzy (1989)
4. Magicland Dizzy (1990)
5. Spellbound Dizzy (1991)
6. Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk (1991)
7. Crystal Kingdom Dizzy (1992)
8. Wonderful Dizzy (2020)
In addition to the official Dizzy games many fan-made Dizzy adventures have been created over the years. Most have been made using “DizzyAGE” (the Dizzy Adventure Game Engine), which was released in 2006. DizzyAGE enabled fans to easily create their own Dizzy games in the style of the originals. Each year, from 2006 to 2016, the makers of DizzyAGE ran a competition to find the best game from the previous year, with prizes offered by The Oliver Twins. As of 2018 there are over a hundred fan-made Dizzy games listed on the DizzyAGE website.
