Drill Dozer is a fun, side-scrolling “drill ’em up” where you take control of a small tank with a drill on the front, which allows you to dig your way through the landscape and bump off your enemies. You can upgrade the drill as you play, which then requires the learning of new control techniques – using a kind of gear type system. It’s all quite clever and original.

APB, Arcade
Atari Games‘ 1987 arcade hit APB (All Points Bulletin) is a humorous, fun, overhead driving game where the object is to chase down and ‘catch’ perpetrators in the act of breaking the law, and eventually pulling over targets who have had APBs called on them.

Wizkid is also subtitled “The Story of Wizball II”, which is interesting, although it doesn’t really look or feel like a sequel to Wizball at all to me.
Diddy Kong Racing, Nintendo 64
Rare’s excellent Diddy Kong Racing arguably eclipsed Mario Kart on the Nintendo 64.
Zool 2, Atari Jaguar
Gremlin Graphics‘ lollipop-endorsing, ninja hero Zool was in our faces all throughout the early ’90s. He was supposed to be a kind of ‘anti-hero alien ninja’ to mirror the ‘coolness’ of Sega‘s Sonic the Hedgehog, but only made relatively minor inroads into gaming history with two games that originated on the Amiga then were later ported to a variety of different platforms. Zool 2 was converted to the Jaguar by Imagitech Design and was released in North America and Europe in 1994, and later in Japan, in 1995.
Rayman, Atari Jaguar
Rayman was developed for the Atari Jaguar as the game’s original target system, and it is seen as something of a ‘killer app’ on the console. It certainly is one of the best – maybe even the best – platform games on the Jaguar.
