One of the best games on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis, Micro Machines 2 (1994), by Codemasters, is a super-fast, overhead racing game for up to four players. It is the sequel to Micro Machines on NES.
The game so emphasised the multiplayer side of things that Codemasters incorporated two extra controller ports onto the cartridge, which was a stroke of genius in my opinion (the Megadrive/Genesis only had two joystick ports by default).
And four-player games of Micro Machines 2 are hilarious fun, as you “go feral” on your opponents, trying to knock them off the course and gain an advantage. And fear not if you had no friends to play with as the computer-controlled cars give an entertaining single-player experience too.
A Sega Megadrive classic!
