Here’s a celebration of homebrew gaming grabs for you! The word “homebrew” has come to mean “making games at home“, and – in modern times – this has become a hobby/pursuit for many budding coders, game-designers, artists and musicians.
This week I’m only posting games that are considered to be among the most interesting “homebrew” titles around. Games that were made for fun by people who love providing the world with new art, stories, music and gameplay.
Some homebrew games are derivatives, or even straight-up tributes/clones, to good old games from the past. Others are completely new ideas, or wish-fulfilment projects.
The ones that use trademarked characters and visuals are almost always unlicensed, so the homebrew games are given away free, in the hope that no one cares about them, in legal terms at least.
One thing I love about homebrew today, in 2026, is that it is so broad. Games for all different formats are available. I’ve even seen new formats created, just so that creators can make games on them (the PICO-8, for example).
Anyway, enough waffle for now. When the Homebrew Special is over I’ll post a full list of what was published on here, as usual.
Enjoy,
The King of Grabs
