Shadow of the Beast is a side-scrolling action game developed by Reflections and published by Psygnosis in 1989. When the game first came out it was praised for its graphics, but not for its gameplay, which is frankly paper thin.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Sega CD
The Sega CD version of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is completely different to the platform game of the same name developed by Bits Studios, although it is still based on the 1994 film starring Robert De Niro as The Monster. This game was developed by Psygnosis and published as a double pack, alongside Bram Stoker’s Dracula, by Sony Imagesoft in 1994. As far as I know it wasn’t released as a stand-alone title.
Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, NES/Famicom
Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! was developed by Nintendo R&D3 and was first published by Nintendo in 1987. It is considered by many to be one of the greatest boxing video games ever made, with well-animated cartoon-style characters and an intuitive and responsive control system.
Worms, Atari Jaguar
The Atari Jaguar version of Team 17‘s Worms was developed by Ocean Software and first published by Telegames in 1998. It was the final Atari-licensed title to be released for the Jaguar. This port is based on the PlayStation version of Worms, which is a good thing because the PS1 version is arguably the best version of the game ever made.
Fight For Life, Atari Jaguar
Fight For Life is a 3D fighting game, released exclusively for the Atari Jaguar in 1996. It was the final title to be developed and published by Atari Corporation before support for the Jaguar was withdrawn.
Generations Lost, Megadrive/Genesis
Generations Lost is a scrolling platform action game for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis, developed by Pacific SoftScape and published by Time Warner Interactive in 1994. And it really is rather good, in spite of it not reviewing so well when it was first released.
Crime City, Arcade
Taito‘s Crime City in an obscure run-and-gun arcade game, first released in 1989. It is part of the Chase HQ series, and the two playable characters – Tony Gibson and Raymond Brody – are the same leads as in the first Chase HQ. You can play either alone, or two players can play the game simultaneously, cooperatively.
Big Trouble in Little China, Amstrad CPC
The 1987 Amstrad CPC version of Big Trouble in Little China is more or less a direct port of the ZX Spectrum original, but with slightly more colour in the graphics. It is noticeably slower than the Spectrum version, though.
Big Trouble in Little China, Commodore 64
Based on the 1986 John Carpenter film of the same name, Big Trouble in Little China is a side-scrolling action game designed by Mev Dinc and published by Electric Dreams Software for the C64 in 1987. And it is pretty lame, it has to be said.
Big Trouble in Little China, ZX Spectrum
The ZX Spectrum version of Electric Dreams‘ Big Trouble in Little China was the first released, coming out the same year as John Carpenter‘s famous film, in 1986. The Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64 versions followed later, in 1987.
