Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Arcade
Capcom‘s Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is a side-scrolling beat ’em up, based on a series of comics (and an animated TV series), and first released into arcades in 1993.
The game bears all the hallmarks of classic Capcom arcade games of the time: vivid, colourful graphics, relentless action, and violent, cartoon humour.
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, Megadrive/Genesis
For my money: THE best game on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis.
Sega‘s very own level-grinding RPG franchise comes to full fruition in this fourth instalment of the Phantasy Star series, first released in 1993.

Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame, PC
Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame was originally released for PC MS-DOS by Broderbund in 1993, but has a had a number of high def Apple-based remakes since.

Both this – and its predecessor, The Stygian Abyss – were developed concurrently, and were a significant leap forward in terms of software technology at the time.

Zool 2, Atari Jaguar
Gremlin Graphics‘ lollipop-endorsing, ninja hero Zool was in our faces all throughout the early ’90s. He was supposed to be a kind of ‘anti-hero alien ninja’ to mirror the ‘coolness’ of Sega‘s Sonic the Hedgehog, but only made relatively minor inroads into gaming history with two games that originated on the Amiga then were later ported to a variety of different platforms. Zool 2 was converted to the Jaguar by Imagitech Design and was released in North America and Europe in 1994, and later in Japan, in 1995.
Star Wars Arcade, Sega 32X
This exciting-looking Star Wars game was first released in arcades in 1993, then released for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis 32X in 1994. It was a launch title for the 32X add-on peripheral.
Frontier: Elite II, PC
David Braben‘s long-awaited 1993 follow-up to the classic space trading game Elite unfortunately doesn’t involve Ian Bell.
