Sim Ant, Super Nintendo

I’ve played a number of different versions of Sim Ant and would have to say that the Super Nintendo version is probably my favourite.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Super Nintendo

This brilliant single and multi-player overhead shooter by LucasArts is a parody of every single horror and sci-fi film you’ve ever seen.

Chainsaws, zombies, UFOs, mummies, werewolves, demonic babies, spiders, shopping malls – you name it, the game will throw it at you during at least one of its 48 different stages.

Alone In The Dark 2, PC

Alone In The Dark 2 is a suitably frantic, scary and chilling sequel to 1992’s Alone In The Dark.

Part two came out just over a year after the first game, in 1993, and French developer Infogrames made it bigger and more challenging than the first game.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Game Boy

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (1993) is like a mini version of the Super Nintendo classic A Link To The Past (1991) – both games share more than just the same DNA. At times Link’s Awakening feels like A Link To The Past without colour. Which is a huge compliment because A Link To The Past is one of the best games ever made. This, too, is among the best Game Boy games of all time.

Landstalker, Megadrive/Genesis

Released in its native Japan in 1992, and everywhere else in 1993, Landstalker is a memorable real-time action adventure in a well-defined fantasy world. The Megadrive‘s answer to Zelda, in some respects.

Championship Pool, Super Nintendo

Bitmasters1993 title Championship Pool for the SNES is – I think – arguably the best pool game of all time. On any system.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered, PC

Day of the Tentaclethe original, classic point-and-click adventure, released by LucasArts in 1993 – was given a high-definition facelift in 2016, courtesy of Double Fine Productions.

And it really gives this game a much-needed re-airing to the general public. Because Day of the Tentacle is too good a game to leave languishing in the recesses of history.
