Gremlin Graphics‘ iconic, lollipop-endorsing, ninja hero Zool was in our faces all throughout the early 1990s.
Zool was supposed to be some kind of anti-hero, to mirror the ‘coolness’ of Sega‘s Sonic The Hedgehog, but he only really made minor inroads into gaming history.
Zool 2 is definitely an improvement over the first game, because you can play two player, and there is also a female Zool-style character (called Zooz) to choose from.

One of the first games I played on my first gaming machine, an Amiga 1200. I remember the first level well, but don’t think I ever got very far in it!

I think I first saw (and grabbed) Zool on a SNES. At Super Control magazine. I remember he had the cover of one issue.

I remember finally hunting down Zool after growing up with Zool 2 for many, many years… and being really, really disappointed. Not quite sure why I expected anything that would impress me, mind.
