Bomberman, NES/Famicom
The first NES/Famicom version of Hudson Soft‘s Bomberman was a significant enhancement of the Bomberman concept, and was the first game in the series to feature the famous Bomberman player character, with the white helmet (actually an enemy graphic taken and adapted from Hudson‘s 1984 Famicom port of Brøderbund‘s Lode Runner). Bomberman was released in 1985 in Japan, but wasn’t released in North America until 1989.
Android 2, Amstrad CPC
Converted to the Amstrad CPC by Chris Wood, from the ZX Spectrum original by Costa Panayi, Android 2 is a responsive and playable port, but doesn’t quite match up to the Spectrum version’s level of presentation.
Tapper, BBC Micro
Coded by P.A. Morgan for Micro Power and published by US Gold in 1985, Tapper on the BBC Micro is a playable, reasonably well-presented and jolly conversion of the classic arcade game.
Action Biker, Atari 8-Bit
Mastertronic‘s Action Biker was a well-known budget hit on the Commodore 64, and it was also released for Atari 8-bit home computers, in 1985. Both the C64 and Atari versions were bundled together as a dual release.
C5 Clive, ZX Spectrum
C5 Clive, written by Barry Jones and published by Scorpio Gamesworld Ltd., pays tribute to (ie. satirises) Sir Clive Sinclair‘s infamous “personal automotive vehicle“, which was released onto the UK market as the Sinclair C5 in 1985.
Choplifter, SG-1000
The SG-1000 version of Choplifter was published – in Japan only – by Sega in 1985, and it is surprisingly good. It’s actually one of the better versions of the first Choplifter, with decent controls and some unique features not seen in other versions.
Choplifter, MSX
The MSX version of Choplifter was converted by Programmers-3, Inc. and initially published, as a ROM cartridge, by Sony in 1985.
Choplifter, Arcade
Sega‘s 1985 arcade version of Choplifter is a rare beast indeed. It is a game that went from home computers, to the arcades, when usually the opposite is true. Dan Gorlin‘s helicopter shooter/rescue game was deemed good enough to be completely reprogrammed and put into an arcade cabinet.
Costa Capers, ZX Spectrum
Costa Capers is the sequel to the classic Spectrum platformer, Technician Ted. The game was published by Firebird Software in 1985 and features similar gameplay to the original, with the same distinctive Ted sprite.
