The Game Gear has a surprisingly good conversion of the classic Atari arcade game, Marble Madness, in its library. It was coded by Steve Lamb and published by Tengen in 1992.

Arena, Game Gear
The game’s full North American title is Arena: Maze of Death, but it was released as just Arena in Europe so that’s what I’m going to call it. It’s an isometric shoot ’em up with you playing a “pro-democratic freedom fighter” called Guy Freelander who must fight his way through a variety of industrial locations in order to reach a television station to broadcast proof of an evil corporation’s wrongdoings.
Road Rash, Game Gear
A handheld conversion of the classic Megadrive motorbike racing game that works very well on the Game Gear. Game Gear Road Rash was programmed by Gary Priest for Probe Software and published by US Gold in 1993.
Columns, Game Gear
The Game Boy had Tetris and the Game Gear had Columns, although – frankly – Columns isn’t nearly as good as Tetris… Columns was published for the Game Gear by Sega in 1991 and is based on the 1990 Sega arcade game of the same name.
Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament, Game Gear
Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament is the even better sequel to the excellent Micro Machines. It is a single or multiplayer overhead racing game where you race different types of toy vehicles on a variety of miniature courses.

Power Strike II, Game Gear
Power Strike II is a re-titling of the second Aleste game on the Game Gear. It was again developed by Compile and published by Sega in Europe and Brazil in 1993. The original Japanese title was “GG Aleste II: Lance Bird“.
GG Aleste, Game Gear
The Aleste series of shooters is well known on the MSX, Sega Master System and Super Nintendo, and on the Game Gear this spin-off is known as “GG Aleste” (or Power Strike in some territories). It was developed by Compile and published by Sega in 1991.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Game Gear
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the 1992 sequel to the first Sonic on the Game Gear and it is considered by some to be better than the previous game. I’m not sure I agree, though…

Land of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse is a Disney-themed platform game that was developed and published by Sega in 1993. It is considered by many to be one of the best games on the Game Gear.
