Grand Theft Auto 2, PlayStation

The sequel to the notorious crime simulator, Grand Theft Auto, was developed by DMA Design and published by Rockstar Games in 1999. Grand Theft Auto 2 is more of the same overhead, scrolling car-stealing action, although this time it is a set in a futuristic metropolis known as “Anywhere City“, where three feuding gangs are competing to become the dominant crime syndicate in the city.

Grand Theft Auto, PlayStation

First released in 1997 for MS-DOS PCs, the first Grand Theft Auto laid the framework for the series as it’s become today, which is: one of the best-selling and most popular video game franchises of all-time. Not to mention one of the most controversial.

Grand Theft Auto was developed by Scottish company DMA Design and published by BMG Interactive in Europe and Take-Two Interactive in North America.

James Pond 3: Operation Starfish, Amiga

The third and final game in the James Pond trilogy was written by Chris Sorrell and published by Millennium Interactive in 1993.

James Pond 3: Operation Starfish was originally developed for the Megadrive/Genesis and was later converted to AGA-based Amigas (the A1200, A4000 and CD32), but was not available on Amigas below that specification.

James Pond II: Codename Robocod, Amiga

James Pond II: Codename RoboCod is the 1991 sequel to James Pond: Underwater Agent and was again written by Chris Sorrell and published by Millennium Interactive. Unlike the first James Pond game this follow-up is much more structured and playable than its predecessor.

Written by Chris Sorrell, with music by the late Richard Joseph, James Pond: Underwater Agent is the first in a trilogy of James Pond games and was first published on the Amiga by Millennium Interactive in 1990.

Karnov, Commodore 64

This arcade conversion of Data East‘s 1987 coin-op was highly controversial at the time of release, because it was viewed as a “lazy, direct port” of the ZX Spectrum version, which was not what Commodore 64 owners wanted to see.

Gemfire, Super Nintendo

Gemfire is a turn-based medieval strategy game developed and published by Koei. It was first released for the NES/Famicom in 1991 and given an updated Super Nintendo release in 1992.

The NES and Super Nintendo versions are essentially the same game, but the SNES version has updated graphics and sound.

Gemfire, NES/Famicom

Gemfire is a fantasy, turn-based, conquest/strategy war game developed and published by Koei for the NES/Famicom and first released in 1991. It is known as Royal Blood in its native Japan and was called Gemfire for its North American English language release.

The game is similar to the classic Defender of the Crown, in that the aim is to dominate a map of territories that are occupied by opponent’s castles and armies.

Graftgold‘s conversion of Rainbow Islands on the Amstrad is a decent port of the brilliant Taito arcade game. It was published by Ocean Software in 1990.

Park Patrol, Amstrad CPC

Tony Ngo‘s classic Commmodore 64 game, Park Patrol, has a decent conversion on the Amstrad, courtesy of programmer Andrew Rogers and publisher Firebird Software. The Amstrad version was released in 1986 at a budget price (£1.99 if I remember correctly).
