Atomic Runner, Megadrive/Genesis

A conversion of the 1988 arcade game, Atomic Runner Chelnov. Developer/publisher Data East dropped the “Chelnov” part from the title of the 1992 Megadrive/Genesis release, but the gameplay stays more or less the same.

You must shoot and jump your way through seven continually-scrolling stages, only stopping to fight bosses at the end of each.

Rygar, Atari Lynx

A port of the 1986 Tecmo arcade game, Rygar on the Atari Lynx is a side-scrolling action game where the hero utilises a thrown shield – called The Diskarmor – to destroy his enemies. Rygar was ported to the Lynx by Haehn Software Productions for NuFX, and published by Atari Corporation in 1990.

Metro-Cross is a scrolling race/action game in which you control a character known as “The Runner“, who must cross the finish line on a course full of obstacles, before the timer reaches zero. It was developed and distributed into arcades by Namco in 1985.

Donkey Kong [X2016], Commodore 64

This homebrew version of Donkey Kong was created by “Oxyron” for the Commodore 64 and was released at the “X2016 C64 Party” in The Netherlands in 2016, and it’s really rather excellent. Arguably even better than the officially-licensed C64 conversion by Ocean that was released in 1986.

Donkey Kong, Commodore 64

The 1986 Commodore 64 port of Nintendo‘s famous Donkey Kong was developed by Arcana Software Design and published by Ocean Software. And it is a decent port of the arcade game.

Arcana also made the superb Amstrad CPC Donkey Kong port for Ocean, so it’s no surprise that this one is good too.
