Although there were small Christmas demos made for Lemmings in 1991 and ’92, Holiday Lemmings 1993 was the first full retail release of a Lemmings game based on Christmas.

It’s a violent, isometric shooter with a futuristic setting. In it you play a kind of ‘super soldier’ called a Silencer (how poetic…) who changes sides when his superiors try to have him killed after a botched mission.
Shadow Warrior 2, PC
A modern remake of the classic 3D Realms shooter is a great idea – the original adventures of Lo Wang (the lead character in the Shadow Warrior games, and the character you play in this) were a lot of fun.
Cannon Fodder, Atari ST
Sensible Software‘s classic Cannon Fodder is still the same great overhead war game on the Atari ST as it was on the original platform – the Amiga. Although it has to be said that it’s not quite as good as the Amiga version…
Dyna Blaster, Atari ST
This game is really a re-titled Bomberman – Hudson Soft‘s famous maze game – on the Atari ST. The game was re-named to avoid any association with the IRA bombing campaign in the UK, which was happening at the time.
R-Type, Arcade
Released into video game arcades in 1987, Irem‘s side-scrolling shoot ’em up, R-Type, is considered by many to be the best of its type (pun intended).
Far Cry 2, PC
Far Cry 2 first came out in 2008 and is a first-person shoot ’em up set in a war-torn, fictitious African country. It was developed by Ubisoft Montreal.
The game mixes open world exploration with brutal violence, best-in-class combat, and also showcases many exciting action game concepts – such as great vehicle use and a large arsenal of weapons to choose from.
