Luckily for Archimedes owners they have an almost perfect conversion of Namco‘s classic Pac-Mania – aka the Pac-Man who can jump – and it’s an excellent game. It was developed by Krisalis Software and published by Domark in 1991.

Cataclysm, Archimedes
Cataclysm is an obscure action puzzle game on the Archimedes that involves channelling water from plugged-up vats in the top of a vertically-scrolling level, into a drain at the very bottom. Bubble Bobble, Sega Master System
The Sega Master System conversion of Bubble Bobble was converted by Taito themselves and published by Sega in 1988 in Japan and 1991 in Europe. Not only is it one of the best of the early console conversions, but it also differs from most of the other conversions in a significant way.

Spellbound Dizzy, ZX Spectrum
Also known as Dizzy V (five), Spellbound Dizzy was once again designed and coded by Big Red Software and was first published by Codemasters in 1991.
Spellbound Dizzy was the biggest Dizzy game yet, with 108 screens to explore, and it had a slightly different graphical style to previous games. Message windows were made to look transparent, with background graphics shown as dark blue on top of which text was overlaid, which is a neat little detail that works well. Dizzy himself looked the same though.
Out Run, Megadrive/Genesis
This 1991 Megadrive/Genesis conversion of the classic arcade race game, Out Run, was written by Sega’s AM2 development team – who made the original – and it is therefore very authentic and just as much fun as the arcade game.
Qix, Atari Lynx
Taito‘s classic arcade puzzle game, Qix, received an Atari Lynx conversion in 1991, which was developed in-house at Taito of America and published by Telegames.
R-Type, Game Boy
This 1991 handheld conversion of Irem‘s classic arcade game, R-Type, is surprisingly good.
Yes: it’s monochrome, and yes: the graphics are tiny, but the gameplay is spot on, which is the most important thing.
