Ishar 2: Messengers of Doom, Atari ST

The sequel to the interesting Ishar, Ishar 2: Messengers of Doom is a French, first-person RPG with atmospheric graphics and challenging party-based gameplay. It was first released in 1993.

Thankfully, Ishar 2 rights some of the wrongs of the first game. You can actually see where you are on the map now, which is a blessed relief, and the interface has been cleaned-up a bit, making movement and combat a bit easier.

Prince of Persia, Amstrad CPC

Developed in 1990 by Brøderbund France, the Amstrad CPC conversion of Prince of Persia is a decent interpretation of Jordan Mechner‘s classic platform game.

Graphically, the Amstrad version is very good. It is arguably the best-looking out of all the 8-bit versions.

Zombi, Atari ST

A strange game, and Ubisoft‘s first ever video game release;  the Amstrad original coming out in 1986 and this conversion in 1990.

Zombi is a clear appropriation [ie. lift] of George A. Romero‘s classic 1979 zombie film, Dawn of the Dead, although I don’t think Ubisoft actually bought an official license for it. They just changed all the names of the characters…
