Marsport, ZX Spectrum

Marsport is a futuristic adventure game in the style of Tir Na Nog and Dun Darach. It was published by Gargoyle Games in 1985.

Although it’s not related to the aforementioned two games in terms of characters or story, it is considered to be part of a trilogy with them, because they all share the same engine and gameplay features.

Pooyan, Arcade

A relatively obscure arcade game from Konami, released into arcades in 1982. Pooyan is a simple, but hectic (and fun) shooting game where you play a mother pig, moving up and down a cliff in a basket, trying to rescue, then protect, her piglets from invading wolves with a bow and arrow. It’s a bizarre idea that works very well as a video game.

Normality, PC

A weird mix of 3D exploration and point-and-click adventure, Normality was developed and published by Gremlin Interactive in 1996.

In some respects Normality is the predecessor to Realms of the Haunting – a 1997 release from Gremlin. Both games use the same game engine, and gameplay-wise they also share a lot of similarities.

Sonic Spinball, Megadrive/Genesis

Developed by Sega Technical Institute and released for the Megadrive/Genesis in 1993, Sonic Spinball is a pinball game featuring Sega‘s famous mascot.

The game took some criticism upon release, although I think it’s a very good game that is still fun to play now. If I had any criticisms it would be that the game is quite hard – at least getting to the later stages – but overall has a satisfying feel to it.
