Shadow of the Beast, PC Engine

The PC Engine CD version of Shadow of the Beast is – in my opinion – the best version of the game available. For two reasons: it has the most responsive controls of any version of Shadow of the Beast I’ve played (even compared to the Amiga original), and it’s also the best-looking and best-sounding version of the game too. It was developed by DMA Design and first published in 1992. In Japan it was released by Victor Interactive Software as “Mashou no Okite“, and in North America it was released for the TurboGrafx CD by Psygnosis/Turbo Technologies.

Grand Theft Auto 2, PlayStation

The sequel to the notorious crime simulator, Grand Theft Auto, was developed by DMA Design and published by Rockstar Games in 1999. Grand Theft Auto 2 is more of the same overhead, scrolling car-stealing action, although this time it is a set in a futuristic metropolis known as “Anywhere City“, where three feuding gangs are competing to become the dominant crime syndicate in the city.

Grand Theft Auto, PlayStation

First released in 1997 for MS-DOS PCs, the first Grand Theft Auto laid the framework for the series as it’s become today, which is: one of the best-selling and most popular video game franchises of all-time. Not to mention one of the most controversial.

Grand Theft Auto was developed by Scottish company DMA Design and published by BMG Interactive in Europe and Take-Two Interactive in North America.

DMA Design‘s puzzle game, Lemmings, was a big hit with gamers when it was first released in 1991. The simple-but-compulsive gameplay and cute graphics won over everyone who played it.

Knight Tyme was initially released as a 128K-only game (the screenshots here are from that version), and later a cut-down 48K version was released.

Finders Keepers, ZX Spectrum

The first Magic Knight game by David Jones, released by Mastertronic at the budget price of £1.99 in 1985.

Finders Keepers is much more of a platform/maze game than the other games in the Magic Knight series, which are all menu-driven graphical adventures. This one is much more straightforward.

Stormbringer, Atari ST

Stormbringer is a famous ZX Spectrum adventure game released in 1987, and this Atari ST version was made by Andrew Shore and Jason Wilson of Southbank Computer Services and published by Mastertronic in 1988.

It follows the original game very closely and features updated graphics and sound.
