Chameleon is a side-scrolling action game by Martin Walker (of Hunter’s Moon and Citadel fame) and it was published in 1986 by Electric Dreams Software.

Barbarian II: The Dungeon of Drax, Commodore 64
The sequel to 1987’s cult hit Barbarian, Barbarian II: The Dungeon of Drax is a similar fighting game, but with more variety than the first game, and the possibility of exploring the actual world by moving from screen to screen (“wow! What a technological advancement!“). Barbarian II was first released in 1988 by Palace Software. The game was later licensed by Epyx for distribution in North America under the title of “Axe of Rage“.

Palace Software‘s Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior is a fondly-remembered and controversial one-on-one fighting game from 1987, where two gladiatorial combatants slug it out to the death in a variety of different locations. Actually, there are two different versions of this game, each with different backgrounds. The first version has a throne room and then a pit. The second version has a meadow and a clearing in a forest. I’m not sure why there are two versions of this game, but that definitely seems to be the case.

Frankenstein for the Commodore 64 was developed and published by Zeppelin Games in 1992 and in it you play Egor, Professor Frankenstein‘s hunchback assistant, on a humorous and satirical quest to collect dead bodies for his master’s experiments.

CRL Group‘s 1987 release of Frankenstein was part of its text adventure series, based on classic horror stories including Dracula and The Wolfman (it also included Jack the Ripper, but that’s not a “classic horror story” – it is an exploitation of a series of real-life grisly murders perpetrated by an obscenely rich and demented Freemason, but I digress…).

Bride of Frankenstein is a cartoon action adventure game, based on Mary’s Shelley‘s classic Frankenstein story, written by Paul Smith and Steve Howard of Timedata Ltd. and published by Ariolasoft in 1987. And it is absolute rubbish. Yes: Bride of Frankenstein is a malformed, badly-designed abomination that is barely worth a mention here.
Cobra, Commodore 64
The 1986 Commodore 64 version of Cobra – based on the Sylvester Stallone film of the same name – is infamous for its sheer awfulness. It is based on the more successful ZX Spectrum game, designed and programmed by the late Jonathan Smith, but has lost a great deal in translation to the C64.
Chip Factory, Commodore 64
Chip Factory, by Supersoft, was first released for the Commodore 64 in 1984 and is a BurgerTime variant that at least tries to do something different with the concept of dropping objects down a series of platforms and ladders.
Burger Time ’97, Commodore 64
Burger Time ’97 is another unofficial Commodore 64 clone of Data East‘s classic arcade game, BurgerTime, and it is arguably better than most other rip-offs of the famous burger-dropping platform game – at least on 8-bit home computers. It was programmed by Ruben Spaans, with graphics by Roy Widding, and was first published by Loadstar in 1997.

This Commodore 64 clone of Data East‘s classic BurgerTime was coded by Lee Braine, with music by Chris Cox, and was first published Interceptor Software in 1984.
