BioShock was first released in 2007 by 2K Games.
It has garnered something of a reputation over the years – for being a game with real drama and emotion. And it is true to say that BioShock is not your average type of first person shooter.

Doom 3, PC
This third iteration of id Software‘s classic Doom, is a dark and violent continuation of the ‘stuck-on-Mars-and-surrounded-by-monsters’ setting, set up by the first two games.
Half-Life 2, PC
Half-Life 2 was first released by Valve Corporation in 2004. It was such a giant leap forward for games in general – not just first-person shooters – that its reverberations are still being felt today.
Half-Life (one) is a brilliant game, but Half-Life 2 completely blows it out of the water.

id Software‘s fantastic post-apocalyptic shooter Rage was first released by Bethesda in 2010.
The game generally divides games-players, although in my opinion it is a great First-Person Shooter. And a weapon-fetishist’s wet dream…
Rescue On Fractalus, Commodore 64
LucasFilm Games‘ classic space shooter, Rescue On Fractalus, was first released on Atari 8-bit computers in March 1984, and this Commodore 64 version came a year later, in 1985.
Brutal Doom, PC
This fan-made reworking of id Software’s classic Doom is just stunning!
Deus Ex, PC

Deus Ex (pronounced Day-Us-Ex – NOT Deuce-Ex) is a classic first-person, futuristic action game with stealth overtones, although you can choose whether to blast your way through it or not.
Quake II, PC
Little Rocket Man, Half-Life 2
Or: the intriguing story of that time I carried a garden gnome through an entire game, to unlock a single Steam achievement.
The game was Half Life 2: Episode Two – one of the best first-person shooters ever made.
Goldeneye, Nintendo 64
First released in 1997, Rare and Nintendo’s Goldeneye is a classic first-person shoot ’em up with a memorable deathmatch mode.
