SonSon II, PC Engine
SonSon II is the 1989 sequel to Capcom‘s 1984 arcade game, SonSon, and was developed by NEC Avenue and released exclusively for the PC Engine. Once again it is loosely based on the adventures of the “Monkey King” as popularised by the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West.

SonSon is a scrolling platform shooter created by Capcom and distributed into arcades in 1984. It is loosely based on the Chinese “Monkey King” story from the novel Journey to the West. SonSon can be played single-player, or two player simultaneous co-op.
TRON 2.0, PC
TRON 2.0 is a first-person action RPG developed by Monolith Productions and published by Buena Vista Interactive in 2003. It is a sequel to the 1982 film, TRON, but is based in an alternate ‘reality’ due to the de-canonisation of the first film by the 2010 re-boot, Tron: Legacy.
Ion Fury, PC
Ion Fury is a cyberpunk-themed first-person shooter, developed by Voidpoint and published by 3D Realms in 2019. It is a prequel to the 2016 game, Bombshell.
Ion Fury runs on a modified version of Ken Silverman‘s Build Engine and is the first original commercial game to use the Build Engine in twenty years.
Contra 4, Nintendo DS
Contra 4 was developed by WayForward Technologies and published by Konami for the Nintendo DS in 2007. It is a direct sequel to Contra III on the SNES, made in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Contra series.
Aliens, Arcade
This 1990 arcade game from Konami plays fast and loose with the storyline, locations and situations from James Cameron‘s famous film, Aliens, but is still reasonably enjoyable to play.
Psychedelia, Commodore 64
Psychedelia, by Jeff Minter of Llamasoft, is not a game but a “light synthesizer” – a program that turns input (either from a person via a joystick or keyboard, or from a sound input) into graphical on-screen patterns. Psychedelia was first released in 1984 and was one of the first “light synthesizers” ever made; certainly ever to be made available commercially; and it was the seed that led to the Winamp visualisation plugin craze of the late 90s/early 2000s, and to the evolution of light synthesizers or “sound-to-light” technology in general.
Sexy Parodius, Arcade
Parodius is a spin-off series from Konami‘s classic Gradius/Nemesis series. It’s a parody of Gradius, thus “Parodius“, and “Sexy Parodius” is the arcade version of it.
Worms, Sega Saturn
The Sega Saturn version of Team 17‘s classic Worms is pretty much identical to the PlayStation version, which is great because that makes it a special game. It makes it a brilliant party game for up to four players.
