Fallout: London, PC [Part 3 – The Storyline]

The storyline in Fallout: London is split into three separate acts. How the game progresses depends on your actions in the previous act.

The first act is you emerging from a lab and dealing with the various factions; setting yourself up in the process.

The second act is you taking a side between gangs, and then dealing with the opposition.

The third act is an almost clean slate, because you get to do quests for new factions and decide who to side with, for the final battle for the control of London.

The many different factions in Fallout: London fall into two basic categories: friendly or hostile, and it is up to you to decide how you deal with them all. You of course can always be merciful, or as malicious as you like.

In the first act you’re introduced to The Vagabonds (a gang based in Bromley); their rivals, The Syndicate (slick-suited, modern gangsters with ties to The Establishment), and The Thamesfolk (mutated human/fish-people who are generally non-hostile, but downtrodden), which is where the majority of your early faction quests will come from.

It won’t take long for you to figure out that Hooligans, Cultists, Jack Tars, Beefeaters and Scavengers will all attack you on-sight, but are also a good source of loot, which you can sell at any of the available shops to generate ‘Tickets’, which are the local main currency. The mysterious, wheezing Gatherers , and hostile scavengers, will only attack if you get too close to them.

In the second act, The Gentry (the posh, ruling class ‘elite’ who live behind a huge protective wall in the most affluent part of the city) come more into the story, and you’ll spend a fair bit of time wandering around a wonderfully-3D modelled Westminster, or even riding on the working underground, surrounded by men and women in bowler hats. You’ll also be introduced to new boroughs (like Hackney, Camden, Islington and Croydon), and three new factions – Angel, Camelot and The Fifth Column, one of which you must choose to back during the final act.

  1. Hah, love the inclusion of cigarette/tea cards. That grab you have that you also used as the banner for this post looks lovely too. Some of the outdoor set pieces look great.

So in regards to the plot, is it more that society has just fallen apart here, rather than the bombing we see in America in Fallout? I don’t believe I’ve spotted any super mutants yet, not sure if that’s a lore thing or just a deliberate attempt to differentiate the setting

    1. No, London has been nuked, although really only in a few places. There was a big nuclear explosion in Greenwich, that apparently combined with a nuclear power plant explosion. According to the exposition I read.

Super Mutants aren’t supposed to exist here, but they occasionally appear due to spawning bugs that bring enemies from the base game into Fallout: London. In previous versions you’d get Deathclaws spawning where there should have been a Womble. That seems to have been fixed now, but it occasionally still happens. My Covent Garden settlement I think is a bit buggy now and is only attacked by Super Mutant Warlords, and nothing else, and they do a lot of damage. My other settlements are all normal, or are stuck getting no attacks. Lol.
