Castlevania Special

Konami‘s classic Castlevania series is a well-known and much-loved collection of horror-themed games that spans from 1986 to the present day, although some may feel that the series has been neglected in recent times.

Castlevania began its existence in the form of the Famicom Disk System game, Akumajō Dracula, and has undergone many iterations, across almost all video game systems, including in the arcades, on handhelds, and on home computers and consoles.

Here’s a list of all the official Castlevania games ever made. Plus a selection of some of the best fan-made games and hacks.

GameCube Special

The Nintendo GameCube was initially released in Japan and North America in 2001, and Europe in 2002. It is a sixth-generation video games console, with a 32-bit IBM PowerPC CPU and an ATI “Flipper” GPU.

The GameCube was praised for its controller and high-quality game library, but criticised for its lack of multimedia features, and lack of third-party support compared to its competitors (PlayStation 2 and XBox).

FM Towns Special

The FM Towns is a Japanese personal computer, designed and manufactured by Fujitsu from 1989 to 1997. The “FM” part of the name means “Fujitsu Micro“, while the “Towns” part is derived from the code name that the system was assigned during development, “Townes”. This refers to Charles Townes, one of the winners of the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics, following a custom at Fujitsu of naming PC products after Nobel Prize winners.

Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, NES/Famicom

Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! was developed by Nintendo R&D3 and was first published by Nintendo in 1987. It is considered by many to be one of the greatest boxing video games ever made, with well-animated cartoon-style characters and an intuitive and responsive control system.
