Kirby’s Dream Land 2 DX, Game Boy Color

This is a fan-made ROM hack, first released in May 2023 by “kkzero“, of the Super Game Boy-enhanced Kirby’s Dream Land 2 that converts the game for use on the Game Boy Color. And it certainly does this great game justice and really makes those colours pop! In fact: it is much more colourful, and looks even better, than the Super Game Boy version. So much so that it is definitely the best way to play Kirby’s Dream Land 2, IMHO.

Kirby’s Dream Land 2, Super Game Boy

The enhanced version of Kirby’s Dream Land 2 is a real treat on the Super Game Boy. While it only has one special border to choose from, it does have enhanced sound effects (like the sound of wind blowing on some levels), level-specific palettes, and even some special full-colour screens such as the title screen, menus and the ending.

Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Arcade

Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter is the sequel to X-Men vs. Street Fighter and the second instalment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. The game was first released as an arcade game by Capcom in 1997. It then received ports to the Sega Saturn in 1998 and the PlayStation in 1999.

Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa, Sega Master System

Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa is the sequel to the classic 1986 Sega arcade game, Fantasy Zone. Rather unusually, it came out first on the Master System, before later being released as an arcade game. Usually the opposite occurs, but in this case the Master System version was released in 1987 and the arcade version came out in 1988.

Marble Madness II is the unreleased sequel to the classic Marble Madness. It was developed in 1991 by Atari Games and underwent market testing in a variety of locations, but these were deemed a failure so the game was cancelled and never released.

The third game in the Castlevania series, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, was first released for the Nintendo Famicom in 1989 in Japan (under the title of “Akumajō Densetsu“). A North American NES release followed in 1990, and a European release in 1992.

Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, NES/Famicom

The second game in the Castlevania series, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, was originally released in Japan (as “Dracula II – Noroi no Fuuin“) for the Famicom Disk System in 1987, and in North America for the NES in 1988. Europe had to wait until 1990 for a release of the game.
