Vib-Ribbon, PlayStation

Vib-Ribbon is a unique game on the PlayStation. It is the only game I can think of that is mostly black and white and uses simple animated vector-style line art to present the visuals. That said: Vib-Ribbon is full of character and charm and goes to show what can be achieved when developers think out of the box.

Otocky, Famicom Disk System

Otocky is a cute and colourful side-scrolling shooter with a unique and interesting take on the subject. It was developed by SEDIC for ASCII Corporation and first published in 1987.

You see, rather than firing bullets, you throw balls at enemies to destroy them. And you can throw the balls in eight directions, so in effect you can shoot at enemies behind you (and above and below you) too.

Based on the Richard O’Brien stage musical of the same name, CRL‘s 1985 cult hit The Rocky Horror Show is a simple action adventure in which you can play as either Brad or Janet and must rescue your opposite number from the clutches of the evil Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
