The Megadrive version of Ocean Software‘s The Addams Family is excellent – definitely on-par with the SNES version; arguably even better because it has a nice little intro animation that the SNES version doesn’t have.
It otherwise plays identically to the SNES version, which is the benchmark out of all of the many different versions of this game.
Which makes it joint top, IMHO.
It might also run a bit faster than the SNES version, which makes countering Gomez‘s slippy inertia more difficult. I found him to be ‘slippier’ in the Megadrive version than in the SNES version. Either that, or I’ve become progressively more shit at this game, after all the versions of it that I’ve played, grabbed and written about over the years. Or maybe I’ve just been smoking too much weed? Who knows? My friend Pete knows… Orrite Pete! 🙂
The Addams Family is a punishing platformer at times, but is full of great ideas, like the hallway portal to the different levels, and being able to jump up to and climb all over the family mansion at the very beginning is fun.
If you like highly-tuned platform games then The Addams Family on the Megadrive/Genesis is still one to play now, or even to have in the cartridge collection. It’s arguably one of the best platform games on Sega‘s 16-bit console.
