The Addams Family, Amiga

The Amiga version of Ocean‘s classic platform game, The Addams Family, was created by an internal team at Ocean Software in Manchester in 1992, working on multiple ports simultaneously, and trying their best to make great games under pressure.

Some might argue that the Amiga version of The Addams Family is the best version of this game available. Others might argue otherwise. There is no doubting, however, that it’s up there with the best. For me, it’s a “type one AFG” (Addams Family Game – see my previous comments); you can pillage all the loot on the mansion at the beginning), and you can get into the mansion immediately.

The Amiga version of The Addams Family is very polished platforming. It plays great and Gomez feels satisfying to control. He’s not too fast and not too slow, like in some versions.

As you explore you’ll probably collect some money, but this is only for points. There’s nothing to spend the money on, I mean. No shops or extra abilities or anything fancy like that.

What stand out are the graphics (which are superb), the sound (which is perfect), and the gameplay (which is challenging but extremely playable and fair).

Is this one of the best platform games of all-time? I’d say that it probably is…
