Sword of Mana, Game Boy Advance

Sword of Mana on the Game Boy Advance is an enhanced remake of the first Seiken Densetsu game, which was released as Final Fantasy Adventure on the original black and white Game Boy in English-speaking territories. It was developed by Square Enix and Brownie Brown and was first released as “Shinyaku: Seiken Densetsu” in Japan in 2003.

Sword of Mana features an expanded story and dialogue, and new parallel quest lines for both the male and female characters of the story.

The two playable characters have different capabilities. Both can use weapons and magic, but the hero is stronger with melee weapons and the heroine is stronger with ranged magical attacks. Whoever you choose to play as, the other will accompany you as a computer-controlled companion.

Combat and exploration are real-time, and enemies will constantly spawn in areas that are not safe.

The graphics in Sword of Mana are absolutely lovely, with superb use of colour throughout.

Gameplay-wise, Sword of Mana did recieve some criticism when it was first released, but I think that much of it was seriously misplaced, because IMHO this game is fun to play and has a lot of variety and detail that really helps draw you into the story.

Final Fantasy Adventure received a second remake in 2016, with Adventures of Mana.
