id Software‘s formidable Quake was ported to the Nintendo 64 by Midway, and first published in 1996. And it is an excellent port of the classic First-Person Shooter.
In my humble opinion, I think that this version of Quake is better than the Sega Saturn version, which was its closest rival at the time. It feels more authentic, and all the 3D models don’t look like malformed potatoes…
Unlike in the Saturn version, you don’t get to choose episodes in Quake 64, which is a bit of a bummer, and it means you have to work your way through the game one level at a time. If you love Quake, or First-Person Shooters, then that won’t be a problem – you’ll take them as they come.
