Quake II, Nintendo 64

The Nintendo 64 version of id Software‘s Quake II was developed by Raster Productions and released in 1999, by Midway in North America and Activision in PAL regions.

This version of Quake II has a whole new set of levels, although most of them are adaptations of the originals. There are areas, like the opening, that are different initially, but then connect to more familiar areas. All the enemies are the same as in the original, although their placement obviously differs.

There are gunfire lighting effects; new coloured lighting effects; new on-screen messages, and there’s also a completely new soundtrack by “Razor” (aka Ken Richmond), probably to avoid rights issues with Nine Inch Nails.

N64 Quake II has split-screen multiplayer – for up to four players – with four different game modes: Deathmatch, Fragteams, Flagwars and Deathtag.

Overall, this is an excellent conversion of a timeless classic and a must-own game for N64 owners.
