Phantasy Star Online, Dreamcast

Phantasy Star Online was developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega in 2000 for the Dreamcast. The game is an online/offline JRPG in the style of the previous Phantasy Star games, and is much-celebrated. We’re looking at PSOVersion 2” here, which came out in 2001, with expanded content.

The primary gameplay in PSO is cooperative play with other players, over the internet. And while Sega decommissioned the last official PSO servers in 2010, Phantasy Star Online is still played on private servers today.

There’s also an offline mode, for those who like grinding on their own, which is what I’m showing here.

Phantasy Star Online was one of the first online games to actually become a genuine success.

Note: to get the game up and running for the first time, you need to enter a Serial Number and an Access Key. These are found on the jewel case of the disc the game came in, so… Look online if you don’t have them. You only need to enter the codes once.
