Far Cry Instincts, XBox

A ‘consolised’ remake of the PC version of Far Cry, released for the original XBox in 2005, by Ubisoft. Far Cry Instincts was developed by Ubisoft Montreal.

Far Cry Instincts is less open-ended than the original Far Cry. The single-player story mode focusses more on linear missions, based on a modified version of the original story, with you playing as Jack Carver. You’re given on-screen prompts as you progress, which point out your objectives, and cutscenes intersperse the action, as required by the story.

New features include: the ability to set a ‘Branch Whip’ booby trap; new weapons (including Claymores), and so-called ‘feral abilities’.

You still get to drive vehicles, some of which are new (the Jet Ski for example), which is just as exhilarating as it was in the original Far Cry.

Far Cry Instincts does have a multiplayer mode, that allows up to 16 players at once, and I did read somewhere that replacement servers for XBox Live still support the game. So you can still play this online, if you want to.

Even better: Far Cry Instincts has a built-in map editor that allows you to easily make your own levels and share them with friends. Which is a great addition.
