Ranarama, Amstrad CPC

The Amstrad version of Steve Turner‘s Ranarama is every bit as good as the Spectrum original, although it is probably fair to say that it isn’t quite as colourful. It still looks good, though. And – even more importantly – it plays just as good, if not better, than the original.

Ranarama is not an easy game to figure out. It’s easy to wander around aimlessly – just exploring. But if you want to beat the game you’re going to have to read the manual. Or at least refer back to my review of the original Spectrum version.

Amstrad Ranarama is still worth playing today. It’s a classic example of a concept borrowed from somewhere else (Gauntlet), and turned on its head to make something completely different and compelling in its own right.
