Postal: Brain Damaged is a so-called “boomer shooter” (whatever that means), developed by HyperStrange, and first published in 2022. It’s a fast-moving, humorous and challenging First-Person Shooter with a Story Mode and a Survival Mode (but no multiplayer, that I could see).
You play as The Postal Dude, who is caught inside a brain-damage-induced bad dream, and who must fight his way through waves of enemies who want nothing more than to see him dead. The game begins in bland suburbia, and works its way through a variety of different locations, some punctuated with boss fights.
The general idea is to find better weapons as you progress through the story; to find coloured keys to unlock doors, and to piss on as many enemies as possible… Yes, you read that right. Piss on them.
True to its Postal 2 roots, in Postal: Brain Damaged you will find a succession of special drinks that’ll supercharge your urination skills. Suspicious Moonshine will turn your piss purple and confuse enemies. Hot Sauce will make you piss ‘hellfire’, which will burn enemies (and sometimes foliage). Liquid Nitrogen will freeze enemies, and so on. This ‘special’ ability is in keeping with Postal‘s low-brow humour and willingness to offend anyone who isn’t on board with the satire.
Overall, I enjoyed playing Postal: Brain Damaged. It’s fairly tough, is funny, is presented well, and has some decent over-the-top weaponry to play around with. Each level has a bunch of secrets to find, plus there are online and offline leaderboards for speed-running.
I think anyone who appreciates the humour of Postal 2 will probably enjoy this. Postal: Brain Damaged is definitely worth picking up in a sale.
