This 1991 release from Codemasters is the first game in the award-winning Micro Machines video game series and – boy – does it kick-start the series in style!
In fact: it established the staples that make the series so good, like the themed tracks, and the ‘race-to-the-edge-of-the-screen’ style racing.
Micro Machines is an almost perfect single-screen multiplayer game. Meaning: that two people can sit around the same screen and enjoy a game against each other, no problem.
And – if you haven’t got any friends to play with – the AI opponents make the single-player games very exciting too.
Micro Machines is a brilliant little racing game, bettered only by the sequel, Turbo Tournament, and is a stand-out title on the NES. Considering the number of games on the system, that is some achievement for a British video game.
