Archer MacLean‘s Dropzone was initially released on the Atari 8-bit machines in 1984, before it later appeared on the Commodore 64 and became a smash hit.
Archer MacLean – the game’s author – has even been quoted as saying that the Atari version is the best out of all of them, running “2.5 times faster” than the C64 version.
That said: I personally prefer the Commodore 64 version. There’s something about it that sets it apart from the rest.
Both Atari and Commodore versions of Dropzone are awesome to play. Pure, unadulterated, unforgiving, arcade-style blasting action!
