Rainbow Islands, Sega Master System

Rainbow Islands on the Sega Master System was released in 1993 in Europe, Australia and Brazil, and it is a reasonably good port of the classic Taito arcade game.

Unsurprisingly, it is very similar to the NES version, with slightly peaked rainbows, lots of flickering, some slowdown, and gameplay and graphics that are an 8-bit approximation of the original.

Master System owners were probably relatively pleased with this port, although looking at it from the outside it is not really comparable to most other conversions of the game. The boss battles are slow and easy, and the various levels are simplified to fit the capabilities of the console.

Given that there are some really great conversions of Rainbow Islands available elsewhere, the Master System version is most likely to be overlooked by anyone wanting to play the game now.
