Fort Apocalypse, Atari 8-bit

Steve Hales‘ superb Fort Apocalypse is a classic American video game that originated on Atari 8-bit home computers in 1982.

The game is a multi-directional, scrolling shooter where you control a helicopter flying around a series of underground caverns looking for men to rescue.

You have limited fuel, and the odds are stacked against you, but with careful shooting and deft flying you can progress through the two different levels on offer.

The scrolling is smooth and the graphics and sound are excellent. Fort Apocalypse was ahead of its time in 1982, is still very playable, and is well worth a go today if you can find a copy.
