Urban Strike, Game Gear

The third game and final game in the ‘Strike Series‘ released for the Game Gear, Urban Strike, was developed by Borta, Inc. and published by THQ in 1995.

Graphically, Urban Strike I don’t think is as good as the previous games, due to an over-reliance on stippling. A lot of the backgrounds are just too busy for my liking and could’ve done with a tone-down. The previous game in the series, Jungle Strike, I think had a better balance between flat colour and stippling, and as a result: looked better. I think Urban Strike on the Game Gear definitely looks a little rough around the edges…

Gameplay-wise, this is more or less the same as the previous two games: get your briefing, then get to the chopper. Use your map to work out what your priority targets are, then go destroy them before they destroy you. You can re-supply your ammo by picking up crates, and your fuel by picking up barrels. Occasionally you might get another vehicle to pilot. If you’re lucky.

Urban Strike on the Game Gear remains a decent game, and is still worth playing today – if you’re not bored by the series as a whole.
