Impossible Mission, ZX Spectrum

The ZX Spectrum version of Dennis Caswell‘s classic platform/puzzle game, Impossible Mission, was first published in 1985 by US Gold. It is an okay adaptation. Playable, but nothing special.

The converting programmer hasn’t quite managed to get the animation of the player character right, but it’s an okay interpretation. Jumping around and searching for fragments of the password is fun for a while. Rather than having lives, every time you die you lose time. And when the time is over, it’s game over.

I wouldn’t say that this is a classic Spectrum game. It’s an acceptable conversion at best, and a rough approximation at worst. It’s still worth playing today, though, by those who are studying the history of video games. 🙂 For everyone else: go play the C64 original instead.
