Sonic Advance 2 was again developed by Dimps for Sega, who published it exclusively for the Game Boy Advance in 2002.
It follows on from the previous game, with much the same kind of story and gameplay. Sonic and his pals are again up against the evil Dr. Eggman, trying to defeat his plans for world domination, and also trying to free the animals. As Sonic does…
Unlockable playable characters this time include: Cream the rabbit (and her fictional Chao lifeform, Cheese), Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. Each of them having their own moves and abilities.
The game engine has been improved in this game and the developers at Dimps made a conscious effort to speed the game up. As a result: some of the stages in the seven available zones are ridiculously fast.
Like before: there are hidden special stages to find (this time by collecting ‘special’ rings), which allow Sonic to bag Chaos Emeralds. The special stages this time, though, are set on a 3D plane where Sonic must collect a certain number of rings before the timers runs out.
One more Sonic Advance game was to follow – Sonic Advance 3 in 2004.
