The Atari ST and Amiga versions of Head Over Heels are pretty much indistinguishable, other than slight colour palette differences.
Both – I would say – are among the greatest video games of all time.
These 16-bit conversions make great use of the extra colour, and both run very speedily. Or, what I mean by that is: the control response is slightly better than the 8-bit versions, as is the frame rate. Which makes for a more enjoyable game overall.
Bernie Drummond‘s graphics have been given a new lease of life in these conversions too. I’m not sure who made them (whether it was programmer Colin Porch himself, or someone else), but they are among some of the best 16-bit graphics in video gaming history. They really are that special.
If it was you who made them: give yourself a pat on the back for being an artistic wizard! If it wasn’t you who made them… Never mind. Just go out and play it and enjoy Head Over Heels for what it is.
