Ocean Software‘s 8-bit conversion of the classic 1981 Nintendo arcade game, Donkey Kong, is considered to be close to perfect on the Amstrad CPC. All the screens; all the sound effects, and all the challenging gameplay elements are present and correct in this port.
The only thing that bothered me about it were the slightly sluggish controls. A number of times I pressed the jump button only for nothing to happen, which was frustrating. But otherwise Donkey Kong on the Amstrad is an excellent conversion. It even uses the screen well to present the vertical aspect of the original Donkey Kong arcade game.
One thing that is different to the original: instead of the intermission screen saying “How high can you try?” it now says “How high can you get?“. A small detail, but worth noting.
Donkey Kong on the Amstrad was first released in 1986 and was coded by Arcana Software Design.
