The original ZX Spectrum version of Monty On The Run is a real improvement over its predecessor, Wanted: Monty Mole.
What makes it better is that its author, Pete Harrap, improved the movement of Monty, and the collision detection with the landscape, to make it a bit more forgiving to play. It’s also better because it’s more varied. And because – this time – Monty has a cool somersault jump to leap over gaps and enemies.
Monty On The Run is arguably the best game in the Monty Mole series and is one of the best 8-bit platform games ever made.
The Spectrum version of Monty On The Run is somewhat overshadowed by the Commodore 64 version, which is considered by some to be better because of its amazing Rob Hubbard soundtrack.
