Putty Squad, Super Nintendo

Putty Squad is the sequel to the Amiga game, Putty, and was developed by System 3 and published by Ocean Software for the Super Nintendo in 1994.

It’s basically a platform game where you control an amorphous blue blob that can stretch and morph into various shapes to move, punch, absorb, climb, and do various other things.

The aim of the game is to rescue imprisoned ‘putties’ (baby putties – usually coloured red) and to avoid being killed by the various enemies. Putty can collect stars to enhance his attack power, and can also throw darts, electrocute enemies, or throw bombs, depending on his attack power level. If Putty is hit by an enemy he will lose some of that attack power.

A number of home computer conversions were planned for Putty Squad in 1994, but the unfortunately fact is: they were all cancelled before release, in spite of them being almost complete, making this SNES release the lone representative. That is: until 2014 when Putty Squad was remade for the Nintendo DS, Amiga, and the PlayStation 3. Conversions for the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and XBox 360 followed in 2014, with a Nintendo Switch conversion released in 2017.
