Super Space Invaders, Game Gear

I have to say that I’m quite surprised by Super Space Invaders on the Sega Game Gear. It was first released in 1992 by Domark and it’s actually quite good.

What makes it good are the variations in wave movements; the alien reactions to being shot, and the power-ups that you can collect. Combined with the basic gameplay of the original Space Invaders, and what you get is an interesting mish-mash of a single-screen shooter.

The only complaint I have is the difficulty curve, which is steep. If an alien touches the ground, then you lose a life. Not a problem with the first few waves, but soon enough it becomes very difficult to prevent.

Definitely one to own, if you have original hardware. Also: one to play in this day and age, if you like Space Invaders.
