Wave Race: Blue Storm is the 2001 GameCube sequel to Wave Race 64. It’s a single or multiplayer jetski racing game, with races taking place against seven opponents.
The 3D graphics, and the water simulation, are both top-quality. As is the control system. In terms of game modes there are championship races; there’s a stunt mode; multiplayer, time attack, and a free-roaming mode.
Controlling the jetski does take a little getting used to, but when you begin to become proficient, races become fast, furious and fun.
Key to making progress in this game is by understanding the coloured buoys and reacting appropriately to them. Red buoys must be passed on the right, and yellow buoys on the left. A simple concept that is devilishly difficult to remember – even when there are on-screen arrows pointing the way! 😀
By passing buoys on the correct side you will then build-up your turbo meter and can unleash it when you need that extra boost of speed. Which can make all the difference in a hard-fought race.
Wave Race: Blue Storm is still a classy, fun game to play nowadays. And it supports up to four-player split-screen multiplayer, which is a brilliant way to play the game.
