The ZX Spectrum of Beach Head II was developed by Platinum Productions and published by US Gold in 1985.
The game was ported by the same team who converted the original Beach Head to the Spectrum, and therefore feels similar to the first game, and does have continuity.
Beach Head II is again a war/action game that is constructed of various minigames. This time, though, two players can battle each other – one playing as The Allies, and a second player taking the role of The Dictator’s forces.
Firstly, you must either infiltrate the enemy base (as The Allies), or shoot the infiltrators with a machine gun (as The Dictator). Next, you need to protect the infiltrators as they cross open ground inside the base, or destroy them (depending on your ‘side’). Then you must fly your team to find The Dictator’s lair in a helicopter (or shoot it down), and to finally confront The Dictator in a knife-throwing fight, before he can escape.
Beach Head II is a more interesting game to play than its predecessor, and the Spectrum version is a decent enough port, although – again – it’s not as good as the C64 version (mainly because of the less-impactful sound, which lacks the speech, and the ‘oomph’, of the original).
