This colour remake of Castlevania: The Adventure was released in European territories only in the year 2000, as part of the Konami GB Collection Volume 1.
While it’s an okay remake of the monochrome original, the colourized graphics aren’t great, and the game still has many of the problems that the original version had: slow player movement; collision detection issues; relatively bland levels; banal boss battles, and sprite tearing that sometimes makes the health bar disappear.
If you were going to play this game now I would recommend the GBC version, but I would apply the “Castlevania: The Adventure DX” ROM hack to it first. This fan-made hack improves the use of colour in the game; speeds up the player character, and introduces a few other ‘quality-of-life’ features, including turning the game into a stand-alone title.
I’m showing screenshots of the original GBC remake here, to begin with, followed by the enhanced DX version, so you can easily compare the two.
